Southern France by bike

This is a three weeks, linear route, for moderate riders, that covers more than 1000 km by Southern France.

From San Sebastian to Sete, passing through Bayonne, Arcachon, and Toulouse, we will cross the Basque country, the Landes, the banks of the rivers Lot and Garonne, and much of the Languedoc. Following a network of cycling lanes, greenways and the canals of Garonne and the Midi, we will know by heart from the largest maritime pine forest of Western Europe, through the highest dune of Europe, to the amazing works of hydraulic engineering that allowed more than three hundred years ago, to sail from the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea.

Along the route we will have chances to enjoy the festivals Music@Caillou and Musique sacrée à la cathédral of Bordeaux, Festival d'Été of Toulouse, Festival of Carcassonne, and Fiest'A of Sète.

Since 1996 the canal du Midi, since 1997 the Historic Fortified City of Carcassonne, and since 2007 the Historic Center and the Port of the Moon of Bordeaux are World Heritage Sites.

Chingudi Bay, Arcachon Bay, and Leyre Delta are protected wetlands according to the RAMSAR Convention, as well as being listed as SCI. This route runs through Bidasoa Estuary and Fuenterrabia Bay, Domaine d'Abbadia and basque corniche , La Nivelle, Cliffs from Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Biarritz, L'Adour, Dune of Pilat, Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park, Hostens departamental area, and Pond of Bagnas, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and also Courant d'Huchet, Garonne valley from Muret to Moissac, Est and South Béziers, and Pond de Thau and lido from Sète to Agde, are areas protected as IBA (Important Bird Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
