This is a simple route, for beginner cyclists, to and from the Elgorriaga spa.
Starting from Irun and its good communications, we ride along the beautiful Bidasoa greenway to Doneztebe and after a couple of more km we arrive at the village of Elgorriaga with its superb hypersaline waters, the saltiest in Europe (336 g/l). The first news of this spring of mineral-medicinal waters dates back to the mid-19th century. Until 1919 they were not declared of public utility and their baths began to be prescribed for curative purposes. After the Civil War and the post-war period it closed its doors in 1955. The rebirth of the station took place in 2009 after a long comprehensive rehabilitation carried out jointly by the Government of Navarra, the Ministry of Development and the Elgorriaga City Council itself.
This route runs along the Bidasoa river, a space classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and protected area as SPA (Special Protection Area) within the Natura 2000 Network.
