This is a 2-days, very easy route, for initiated cyclists, that runs besides the ancient Royal Canal of the Jarama river.
This is a hydraulic work whose construction suffered numerous problems: Initiated by Felipe II in 1562, it will be fully completed four hundred years later. The canal runs between the municipalities of Rivas-Vaciamadrid and Mocejón, along 72 kilometres. It takes its waters in the Dam of the King, in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, and poured them into the Tagus river, in the province of Toledo. Nowadays, we can see the New Dam of the King, and the former lock house, away from the current river course, known as "The Castle". After arriving at the drainage on the banks of the Tagus River, we ride to Toledo.
Since 2001 the Aranjuez Cultural Landscape, and from 1986 the Historic City of Toledo, are World Heritage Sites.
In addition, we remind you that Toledo was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2016.
This route runs through Meadows, uphills and paramos of southeast Madrid, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and also by Cliffs and precipices of the Manzanares and Jarama rivers, and Reedbeds and thickets of Aranjuez, areas protected as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 2.- Ride from Aranjuez to Toledo (64 km), by the Reedbeds and thickets of Aranjuez, and the Royal Canal of the Jarama. Transportation back home.
