This is a weekend, very easy route, for moderate cyclists or families, that runs through irrigation canals and ditches of Aranjuez, that were conceived at the time of Charles I for water supply of the gardens of the Royal sites installed in the town.
Through its expansion over four hundred years, the system became watering to about 2,600 has. with almost 100 km of canals. On this route we pedal by the canal of the river Tagus and the canal of the Birds, linking the village of Villamanrique de Tajo and the city of Toledo, a World Heritage Site.
Since 2001 the Aranjuez Cultural Landscape, and from 1986 the Historic City of Toledo, are World Heritage Sites.
In addition, we remind you that Toledo was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2016.
This route runs through Meadows, uphills and paramos of southeast Madrid, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and the Reedbeds and thickets of Aranjuez, areas protected as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 2.- Ride from Aranjuez to Toledo (56 km), by the Canal of the Birds. Visit to the Ontígola sea of Aranjuez. Transportation back home.
