The Ocejón peak and its black villages

This is a one-week circular route that runs through the Tierra de Ayllón region and its colourful villages.

Starting in Riaza, the route ascends to the Sierra de Ayllón via the Puerto de la Quesera (1757 m), to descend along paved forest tracks to Majaelrayo, at the foot of the Ocejón peak, the highest point of Guadalajara. It continues through the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park and its famous Hayedo de Tejera Negra, to reach the town of Ayllón. After passing through the villages with red sandstone (Villacorta), yellow quartzite (Alquité, Martín Muñoz de Ayllón) and black slate (Becerril), we return to Riaza.

Ayllón is part of the network of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

This route runs through the Sierra de Ayllón, site classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) areas classified as LIC (Site of Community Importance) in the Natura 2000 network.

Scheduled itinerary: 

Día 5.- Pedalada de Ayllón a Riaza (35 km), por la . Visitas a los pueblos de colores: . Transporte de vuelta.

Day 1.- Transport to Riaza. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Riaza to Majaelrayo (42 km), through the Sierra de Ayllón, the Puerto de la Quesera (1757 m), and the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park. Visit to the Hayedo de la Pedrosa. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Majaelrayo to Grado del Pico (48 km), through the Sierra de Ayllón. Visits to the Hayedo de Tejera Negra and the source of the Aguisejo river. Lodging.
Day 4.- Ride from Grado del Pico to Ayllón (24 km), through the Sierra de Ayllón. Visits to the waterfall and the geological disconformity of Santibáñez de Ayllón, the archaeological site of Estebanvela, and the Ayllón heritage. Lodging.
Day 5.- Ride from Ayllón to Riaza (35 km), through the Sierra de Ayllón. Visits to the colorful villages: Villacorta, Becerril, Martín Muñoz de Ayllón and Alquité. Transport back home.
