Characteristic volcanic landscape of the coast of Cabo de Gata

This is a one-week circular route for beginner cyclists, which starts in Almería and runs through the Cabo de Gata - Níjar Geopark, the only maritime-terrestrial national park, with its captivating volcanic scenery. From there we rode along the greenway of Lucainena de las Torres, to change to another scene of iron mines, at the foot of the sierra de Alhamilla. And end up in another western movie setting, the Tabernas desert, before returning to Almería.

Cabo de Gata - Níjar is a Geopark, and a SPAIM (Speciallly Protected Area of Importance for the Mediterranean).

Lucainena de las Torres is part of the network of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

Almería was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2019.

Since 2003, the island of San Andrés has been a Natural Monument.

Since 1997, Cabo de Gata - Níjar has been a Biosphere Reserve.

The salt flats of Cabo de Gata are a wetland protected by the RAMSAR Convention. In addition this route runs through the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, and the Sierra de Alhamilla, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
