This is a one-days, gastronomy, very easy route for families and beginners.
This time we go to Extremadura, to Casar de Cáceres, famous for its cheeses, and especially his famous torta. The route follows the Silver Way and gets back by cattle paths that formerly were an old Roman road, and even we can visit the ancient Roman camp of Cáceres el Viejo. We ride on a landscape of meadows, open and sparse by the intensive sheep farming, whose milk is the basis of the majority of local cheeses. In the town of Casar, in addition to taste their delicious torta, you can visit the Cheese Museum to learn more about the process of its production.
Since 1986 the Old Town of Cáceres is a World Heritage Site.
In addition, we remind you that Caceres was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2015.
This route runs through Cáceres city and Llanos de Cáceres and Sierra de Fuentes, areas protected as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
