Mining footprints in Riotinto

Mining footprints in Riotinto

This is a one week, circular route, for intermediate cyclists. Of id but demanding distances, with a lot of unpaved roads, and trails without maintenance, with sections of poor road surfaces, which are interspersed with comfortable roads and long lines of quiet tracks, a few km on greenways and spectacular bike lanes.

Leaving the city of Huelva we take the greenway of the Water MIlls and arrive at Valverde del Camino. We visit the Riotinto mines and cross the Andévalo to reach the Lower Guadiana river. After riding for a few km along the Guadiana greenway and getting to know the river up close in Sanlúcar, we pedaled towards Lepe and the beaches of El Rompido, and from there the great bike lane to cross the Marshes of Odiel river and enter Huelva again.

And Huelva was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2017

Since 1983, the Marshes of the river Odiel Odiel are a Biosphere Reserve, and a protected wetland according to the RAMSAR Convention, as well as being listed as SCI. This route also runs through Western Andevalo and the Marshes of the Piedras river and the Arrow of El Rompido, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) and as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
