This is a 6-days-ride, circular route, with a rest day in Covarrubias, that runs through the heart of the Sierra de la Demanda.
A spectacular territory, packed with forests of junipers, oaks, beech and pine trees, and dotted with numerous villages with a long history. From the icnite footprints of dinosaurs, through the Atapuerca archaelogical site, the greenway of the Sierra de la Demanda, the gorge of La Yecla, the monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, to the monumental Covarrubias, we will see all these vestiges through the lands that gave rise to the county of Castilla.
Covarrubias is a member of the net the most beautiful towns in Spain.
Since 1984 the Burgos cathedral, and since 2000 the Archaeological Site of Atapuerca, are World Heritage Sites.
In addition, we remind you that Burgos was the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2013, and since 2015, Burgos has been a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
This route runs through La Yecla and the juniper forests of Arlanza, and the La Demanda mountain range, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) and SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
The availability of accommodation every 20-40 km makes this itinerary ideal to be ADAPTABLE to the needs of each traveler, including families and senior cyclists.
