Riding on the bike lane
This is an easy one-day route for initiated cyclists, that takes us through the Enkarterri, the Encartaciones, to get up close to the iron mining landscape, which was so important in this area until a few years ago.
Leaving Bilbao by train, we arrive at Artzentales and we start to ride down the greenway of the Montes de Hierro up to Gallarta. Then we follow the bike lane that leaves us in Portugalete, to be able to admire closely its famous Hanging Bridge . We can go back to Bilbao by train.
Since 2006 the Bizkaia Bridge is a World Heritage Site.
The city of Bilbao was designated a UNESCO City of Design in 2014.
