The Montserrat from the Parc de l'Agulla of Manresa
This is a circular route of 7 days of pedaling, for intermediate cyclists, that runs through the regions of Bages and Moianés de la Catalunya Central.
Along days of short pedaling and many stops, we will visit the sites of geological interest that show us the ancient inland sea that existed here more than 36 million years ago. A sea that disappeared with the Pyrenees orogeny, leaving spectacular rock formations such as the ancient deltas of Montserrat and Sant Llorenç de Munt, the mining center of Súria, the Toll caves and a nature that have defined the landscape and society of this beautiful territory.
Catalunya Central is a Geopark.
This route runs through Montserrat-Roques Blanques-riu Llobregat, and Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac, spaces classified as SCI (Sites of Community Importance); and through the Sierra de Castelltallat, an area also protected as SPA (Special Protection Area), within the Natura 2000 network.
Day 1.- Transportation to Montserrat. Ride from Montserrat to Manresa (30 km), by the Natural Park of Muntanya de Montserrat. Visits to the abbey of Montserrat, the Forest of the Crosses and Manresa. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Manresa to Súria (23 km). Visits to the parc de l’Agulla of Manresa, the la Bóbila wetlands of Santpedor, and the old village, close to the Ming-Món anticline fold of Súria. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Súria to Sallent de Llobregat (34 km). Visit to the sinkholes in the Joncarets neighborhood of Súria, and to the museum Torres Amat of Sallent. Lodging.
Day 4.- Ride from Sallent to Collsuspina (34 km). Visits to the Guix fault of Sallent, and the meander of Calders. Lodging.
Day 5.- Ride from Collsuspina to Granera (22 km), by the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Obac. Visits to the Toll caves of Moiá, the dolmen of les Umbertes, the la Ginebreda ice pits of Castellterçol, and the castle of Granera. Lodging.
Day 6.- Ride from Granera to the Puig de la Balma (27 km), by the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Obac. Visit to the village of Mura, and the Puig de la Balma. Lodging at the Puig de la Balma.
Day 7.- Ride from the Puig to Manresa (25 km), by the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Obac. Visits to the Vall del Flequer wine tubs, and the Foradat stonebridge of Pont de Vilomara. Farewell lunch. Transportation back home.
