This is a 4-days, linear route, moderate, that starts at Alar del Rey (Palencia), and goes along both the Northern and Campos branches of the Canal de Castilla, the most ambitious engineering work of the XVIII th century, to finish at Medina de Rioseco (Valladolid).
We ride on the towpaths that run parallel to the canal, used for mules pulled boats, and visit countless locks, ruins of mills, and flour or electricity factories, that flourished associated with the canal activity.
Becerril de Campos is part of the network of the magical towns of Spain.
This route runs through the Canal de Castilla, and its Lagoons of the Canal de Castilla, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); and also the Lagoons of the Canal de Castilla, are areas protected as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 1.- Train to Alar del Rey. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Alar to Frómista (62 km). Visit to the Visitors Center of Herrera de Pisuerga. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Frómista to Paredes de Nava (53 km), by the Lagoons of the Canal de Castilla. Visit to the Canal Museum of Villaumbrales. Lodging.
Day 4.- Ride from Paredes to Medina de Rioseco (52 km). Visit to Capillas dovecotes. Back by bus.
