Riding on along the shores of the river Aulne
This is a two week, linear route, for moderate cyclists. We ride on the canal from Nantes to Brest, a work of the 19th century, that passes through the centre of the peninsula of Brittany.
Inspired by Napoleon, to be able to supply the arsenals of the port of Brest avoiding the English fleet, it crosses four river basins along 320 km of towpaths and 236 locks. We start pedaling in Nantes, to continue among the greeneries and rains that characterize this region, and get the town of Josselin, and rest for a day. Then we follow along a unique natural environment to end in the charming town of Châteaulin. Finally we get back to Nantes.
This route runs through Parc naturel régional d’Armorique, Vallée de l'Aulne, Complexe de l'est des montagnes noires, Forêt de Quénécan, vallée du Poulancre, landes de Liscuis et gorges du Daoulas, Marais de Vilaine, and Marais de l'Erdre, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 2.- Ride from Nort-sur-Erdre to Guenrouet (49 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Guenrouet. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Guenrouet to Peillac (43 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Peillac. Lodging.
Day 4.- Ride from Peillac to Josselin (45 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the castle of Josselin. Lodging.
Day 5.- Resting day in Josselin. Lodging.
Day 6.- Ride from Josselin to Pontivy (50 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Pontivy. Lodging.
Day 7.- Ride from Pontivy to Gouarec (43 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Gouarec. Lodging.
Day 8.- Ride from Gouarec to Carhaix-Plouguer (40 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Carhaix-Plouguer. Lodging.
Day 9.- Ride frome Carhaix-Plouguer to Châteauneuf-du-Faou (35 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Châteauneuf-du-Faou. Lodging.
Day 10.- Ride from Châteauneuf-du-Faou to Châteaulin (61 km), by the canal Nantes-Brest. Visit to the historical heritage of Châteaulin. Transportation back home.
