This is a linear, one-week route for advanced cyclists, accustomed to long climbs and hard tracks, which runs through the entire Guadarrama mountain range along the recently created Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. From the Somosierra pass to Robledo de Chavela, we cycle between gorse and pine forests, crowning well-known mountain passes such as Los Cotos or Fuenfría.
Since 1984, El Escorial monastery has been a World Heritage Site.
Since 1992, the Upper Basin of the Manzanares River, and since 2013 the Royal Site of San Ildefonso-El Espinar, have been Biosphere Reserves.
This route runs through the Sierra de Guadarrama, the Lozoya River Basin and Sierra Norte, and the Guadarrama River Basin, areas classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance); as well as through the Sierra de Guadarrama, and Alto Lozoya, protected areas as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 1.- Transport to Somosierra. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Somosierra to Lozoya (52 km), by the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Lozoya to La Granja de San Ildefonso (45 km),by the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Visits to the puente del Perdón, the monastery of El Paular, the Giner de los Ríos Arboretum, and the Finnish forest. Lodging.
Day 4.- Ride from La Granja to Cercedilla (33 km), by the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Visit to the Valsaín Palace. Lodging.
Day 5.- Ride from Cercedilla to San Lorenzo del Escorial (26 km). Visits to the Royal Site and the Luis Ceballos Arboretum. Lodging.
Day 6.- Ride from San Lorenzo to Robledo de Chavela (20 km). Visits to the Felipe II chair. Transport back home.
