This is the second part of our four-week route proposal: a long 1000 km journey, from Alcolea del Pinar (Guadalajara) to Coimbra (Portugal), along tracks and local roads through the entire Central System.
In this second section we filmed from Barco de Ávila to Coimbra, the old Portuguese capital and with a famous University, a World Heritage Site. We continue rolling high and getting to know unique towns, Biosphere reserves and a Geopark where we will ascend to the roof of continental Portugal, the Estrela peak, at almost 2000 m.
Miranda del Castañar, Mogarraz and La Alberca are members of the net the most beautiful towns of Spain.
Since 2013 the University of Coimbra is a World Heritage Site.
The Sierras of Bejar and Francia have been a Biosphere Reserve.
The Planalto superior da Serra da Estrela e alto rio Zêzere is a protected wetland according to the RAMSAR Convention. Besides this route runs through Sierra de Gredos, río Alagón, Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia, Sierra de Gata, and Serra da Malcata, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) and as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
