Blick auf den Meeresarm von Barqueiro, Grenze zwischen Lugo und A Coruña

This is a 7-day, linear route, for intermediate cyclists, with short but intense days, dressed with spectacular beaches, wild cliffs, beautiful fishing villages, ancient Celtic forts, and many, many raised granaries. A beautiful route along the northernmost coast of the peninsula, perhaps the least explored.

We start in Ribadeo, then we reach Burela -the largest fishing port of the Cantabrian coast, the factories of Sargadelos, the medieval villa of Viveiro, the Estaca of Bares -the most northern point of the peninsula, then the Artaba coast and the lagoons of Valdoviño and Doniños, to finish in El Ferrol. Daily distances are short, we ride mainly on local roads, allowing us to explore beautiful corners as the oldest European eucalyptus forest or the shellfish farms of Rinlo.

Since 2005 the Playa de las Catedrales  (compulsory reserve the visit) is a Natural Monument, and since 2007 the río Eo, Oscos y Terras de Burón are a Biosphere Reserve.

Ribadeo estuary, Ortigueira estuary, and Valdoviño lagoon and sandbank are protected wetlands according to the RAMSAR Convention, as well as being listed as SCI (Site of Community Importance). Also this route runs through Las Catedrales beach, western Mariña coast, Ártabra coast, and Estaca de Bares, sites classified as SCI, and western Mariña coast, Ortigueira estuary, and Ferrolterra - Valdoviño coast, areas protected as SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
