This is an easy, circular route, for beginners, that runs along the valley of the river Arlanza and the historic sites that saw how the Count Fernán González, won for this land the independence as the first County of Castile.
From samples of the best Romanesque of the peninsula, such as the monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, the monumental city of Covarrubias, or the ruins of the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza, through natural areas unknown to most as the gorges of Ura and Yecla, or the juniper forests of the Arlanza river, to the fossil trees of Hacinas.
Covarrubias is a member of the net the most beautiful towns of Spain.
This route runs through La Yecla and Arlanza juniper forests, sites classified as SCI (Site of Community Importance) and SPA (Special Protection Area) in the Natura 2000 network.
Day 1.- Transportation to Salas de los Infantes. Ride from Salas to Covarrubias (30 km), by the Arlanza juniper forests. Visits to the Dinosaurs Museum of Salas, the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza, and the historical center of Covarrubias. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Covarrubias to Santo Domingo de Silos (28 km), through the gorges of Ura and Yecla rivers. Visit to the monastery of Santo Domingo. Lodging.
Day 3.- Ride from Santo Domingo to Salas de los Infantes (18 km). Visit to the Visitors Center of the Fossil Tree of Hacinas. Transportation back home.
