This is an easy, two-day route, ideal for a pleasant weekend bike ride with the family. We begin in Béjar, a medieval city with walls, Romanesque churches, museums, a lively main square, as well as an interesting legacy of its ancient textile craft tradition. The greenway passes through oak forests in the foothills of the mountains, descending to Hervás, where we enter by crossing its spectacular iron bridge and arriving at the train station, converted into a hostel, and its famous Jewish quarter. The route continues descending through the forest canopy to gradually open up to the dehesas (pastures) that accompany us until its end in the monumental Plasencia, on the banks of the Jerte River.
Since 2006, the Sierras de Béjar and Francia have been a Biosphere Reserve.
This route runs through the Sierra de Gredos and Valle del Jerte, Candelario, and the rivers Alagón and Jerte, areas protected as SAC (Special Area of Conservation), within the Natura 2000 Network.
