This is an easy, linear route for beginner cyclists that takes us from the Engaña tunnel to Burgos in a couple of days.

We ride along the former railway line of the Santander-Mediterranean greenway, a project that aimed to connect the ports of Santander and Sagunto, but which ceased operations in 1985. This route begins in the Merindades region, passing through towns like Puentedey and Oña, and crossing the Horadada gorge carved by the Ebro River. Further on, the route emerges into the open countryside of la Bureba, before reaching the historic city of Burgos.

Puentedey is part of the network of the most beautiful towns in Spain.

Since 1984, Burgos cathedral has been a World Heritage Site.

In addition, since 2015, Burgos has been a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

Besides this route runs through the banks of the Nela River and its tributaries, the Obarenes Mountains, the Sierra de la Tesla-Valdivieso, and the banks of the Oca River and its tributaries, areas protected as SAC (Special Area of Conservation), within the Natura 2000 Network.

Scheduled itinerary:

Day 1.- Transport to Pedrosa de Valdeporres. Ride from Pedrosa a Oña (54 km), by the Santander-Mediterranean greenway and the Horadada gorge. Visits to Puentedey and Oña. Lodging.
Day 2.- Ride from Oña to Burgos (60 km), by the Santander-Mediterranean greenway. Visits in Burgos. Transportation back home.
